United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti

The United Nations Stabilization Mission In Haiti, or MINUSTAH, is a United Nations peacekeeping mission authorised by U.N. Security Council Resolution 1542. The peacekeeping mission has been in operation since 2004. Upon the U.N. request, China decided to send an anti-riot police unit to Haiti in September 2004. Previously China had already sent small numbers of peacekeeping police to East Timor, Bosnia, Liberia, Afghanistan, and Kosovo, but this was the first time that China sent a complete police unit for peacekeeping mission. The 125-man anti-riot police unit was equipped with armoured personnel carriers and 50 other vehicles, tear gas grenades, and bullet-proof vests.
