Lunar Rover Concepts

Several Chinese universities and research institutes are currently competing for the development of the lunar rover, which will be carried by unmanned probes to land on the Moon during the phase-II of the China’s Lunar Exploration Programme (CLEP-II) between 2012 and 2014.

MR-3 lunar rover prototypes developed by the 805 Institute of the shanghai Academy of Space Flight Technology (8th Academy). The MR weight 250kg, while the smaller MR-3 only weights 120kg. The design can climb 35 degree slope, or cross 25cm high obstacles. The designed service life is three months.The lunar rover is equipped with a 3m mechanical arm and CCD cameras.
