The Type 07 Air Force Uniforms will replace the two Air Force Service Uniforms in service with the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF)—Type 05 Air Force Service Uniforms currently in use with the and the Type 97 Air Force Service Uniforms used by the PLA garrison troops in Hong Kong and Macau. The new Type 07 uniform made its debut in late June 2007 during the ceremony to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China.
The new Type 07 Air Force Uniforms inherited the “Air Force Blue” colour of the Type 05 Air Force Service Uniforms, but with better material and cutting to give a more stylish and professional appearance. All rank insignias are on blue backgrounds. The old standing-collar winter service uniform was abandoned in favour of an open-collar design. Furthermore, the new uniforms also included for the first time a dress uniform to be worn by officers at ceremonial events.
Officers
The Type 07 Air Force Uniforms for officers include:
- Dress Uniform – White double-breasted coat, white trousers, and white long-sleeve shirt with tie
- White Spring/Autumn Service Uniform – White coat, white trousers, and white long-sleeve shirt with tie
- Summer Service Uniform – includes both short-sleeve and long-sleeve shirt in light-blue colour without tie
- Winter Service Uniform – includes coat, trousers, and light-blue long-sleeve shirt with tie
- Winter long coat
- Sweater
- Black Shoes
Air Force officers wear a service cap (combination cap) with all uniforms except the short-sleeve Summer Service Uniform shirt and the sweater, which will be worn with a dark-blue colour soft beret. Decorations for officer uniforms include:
- Rank insignia
- Collar tab
- Cap badge
- Name tag
- Ribbon bars
- Service branch shoulder patch (for Service Uniform)
- Army flag shoulder patch (for Dress Uniform)
- Service badge
According to the PLA's uniform upgrade plan, most Air Force officers will be issued with the Type 07 Dress Uniform, Summer Service Uniform, and Spring/Autumn Service Uniform by 1 August 2007, the 80th anniversary of the PLA. The Winter Service Uniform for officers will be issued in October 2008, and the officer winter long coat in December 2009.
NCOs & Enlisted Personnel
The Type 07 Air Force Uniforms for NCOs and enlisted personnel will be similar in style to the officer uniforms, except the lack of the Dress Uniform and less decorations. According to the PLA’s uniform upgrade plan, NCOs and enlisted personnel stationed in Hong Kong and Macau will receive their Summer Service Uniform and Spring/Autumn Service Uniform in July to August 2007. NCOs and enlisted personnel in other Ground Force and Second Artillery Corps units will receive those uniforms in May 2008. The Winter Service Uniforms for NCO and enlisted personnel will be issued in December 2009.
Female Personnel
Female personnel will have female versions of their respective uniforms, including a skirt to be worn with their Summer Service Uniforms. Instead of wearing a combination cap, female personnel will wear a soft service cap with a turned-up brim.
