The 127th Light Mechanised Infantry Division traces its linage to the 127th Division of the PLA 43rd Corps formed in 1948. The division was assigned to the 54th Group Army during the 1985 force reduction and restructuring programme. In the early 1990s, the 127th Division was appointed as one of PLA’s first “Rapid Reaction Units” (RRU), ready to mobilise within 24~48 hours. The division has maintained high levels of readiness and training.
In 1997, the division undergone a major transformation to become PLA’s first light mechanised infantry division, equipped with wheeled armoured fight vehicles.
Headquartered in the 127th Division is currently composed of two mechanised infantry regiments (79th and 80th), an armoured regiment, an artillery regiment, and an AAA regiment.
