The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has stationed a battery of HQ-7 short-range surface-to-air missile system about 1km away from the main Olympic venue – the National Stadium, or “Bird Nest” in its nickname.
At least two HQ-7 launchers, each with four ready-to-launch missiles, have been spotted in the missile site, which were protected by fences and heavy security. There were also some military hardware and vehicles hidden under camouflage netting. Dozens of soldiers in the PLA Air Force (PLAAF) uniform guarded the missile site.
