The GT-1E chaff/flare dispenser is installed on most combat aircraft of the PLAAF and PLANAF. The device dispenses a variety of decoy flares and chaff to counter any homing of a missile to the carrier aircraft, hence increasing the aircraft's survivability.
The GT-1E dispenser normally works together with radar warning receiver (RWR) or missile approach warning (MAW) system to form a complete airborne self-protection electronic countermeasures (ECM) system. It can be operated either automatically or manually to jam enemy's ground-based and airborne fire-control/guidance radar, and IR- or radar-homing missiles.
