The PLA deploys the TS-510 narrow-band, multi-channel digital tropospheric scatter systems developed by China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) for long-haul communications. The system is used for “over-the-horizon” data and digital voice communications, with a maximum planning range of 200km when suitable terrain is selected.
The system is carried on a 6x6 cross-country truck. Two transmitters and two high-power amplifiers are mounted on the roof of the shelter. The tropospheric scatter system provides a useful addition to the satellite communications for long-haul data/voice transmission.
