The Automated Ocean Surveillance Intelligence System was developed by 28th Institute in 1989. The system was designed to automatically transmit and process the intelligence forwarded from a number of underwater listening posts (seabed passive sonar arrays) and costal air/surface surveillance radar stations. Using wide area networks (WAN), local area network (LAN), multi-user real-time operating system, and high-definition colour displays technologies, the system is able to collect information of surface, underwater, and low-altitude targets and to direct surface ships in the offshore waters.
