SX2190 7 Tonne Truck

Menu

China first approached Western European countries in the late 1970s to seek heavy duty truck technologies. Among several European truck manufacturers, Austrian company Steyr-Daimler-Puch (now part of General Dynamics European Land Combat Systems) was finally chosen as the partner to co-produce heavy duty trucks in China for both civilian and military users. Shaanxi Automobile Group Corporation (Shaanqi Group) based at Xi’an, Shaanxi Province began to build the 7 tonne capacity SX2190 6X6 military truck based on the Steyr truck design and technologies in the 1990s.

The Shaanqi SX2190 entered service with the PLA artillery troops in the late 1990s to replace the older generation heavy duty trucks such as Shaanqi SX2150, Huanghe JN252, and Hongyan CQ261. The truck is mainly used for cargo transport and artillery hauling roles. The truck is available in a range of variants, including the SX2190BQ (short cab), SX2190D (with winch), long wheelbase variant SX2190E, and heavy equipment transporter (HET) tractor SX4260.

The SX2190 truck adopts the “cab over engine” (COE) layout. The forward control cab has two doors with a hard top to accommodate four crews. The rear cargo body is provided with a drop tailgate and sides, and removable bows with canvas cover. A single spare wheel is mounted vertically behind the crew cab, adjacent to a stowage space between the cab and rear cargo body. This space could be used to accommodate a repairing tools box and other loading/unloading equipment. A hydraulic winch (optional) unwinds to both front and rear with a pulling capacity of 10,000kg.

The truck is powered by an in-line, 6-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, turbo-charged Steyr WD615.50 diesel, with a total displacement of 9.762 litres, providing 206kW at 2,400r/min. The RT11609 gearbox has nine forward and two reverse gears. The vehicle is fitted with power assisted steering.

With an empty weight of 9,750kg, the SX4260 tractor can tow a semi-trailer carrying a maximum weight of 39,990kg.
