The Dongfeng EQ2100E (previously known as EQ245 "three-and-a-half-tonner") is 3.5 tonne version of the EQ2108E (previously known as EQ240) 6X6 troop/cargo carrier truck. The EQ2100E is almost identical to the EQ2081 apart from the slightly larger body. The EQ2100E provides transportation of troops, equipment, ammunitions, and supplies for the PLA ground troops, and is used to tow many types of artillery guns and trailers.

Following the success of the 2.5 tonne capacity EQ240 truck, the Second Automobile Works (now Dongfeng Motor Corporation) began to work on an improved variant with increased load capacity in 1978. This development project later led to the introduction of the EQ245 truck, which passed the certificate test in 1980. The EQ245 truck entered PLA service in the early 1980s, and was re-named EQ2081E in the 1990s.

The basic variant EQ2100E (EQ245) is powered by an EQ6105 petrol (gasoline) engine based on British technology, while the improved EQ2100E6D variant is powered by a 160hp (118kW) Cummins 6BT5.9 turbo-charged, 6-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 5.88 litre, 160hp diesel engine. The vehicle has five forward gears and one reverse.
