The improved Type 82 all-plastic steel ball hand grenade, also known as Type 86, was introduced in 1986. Based on the design of the Type 82-2 fragmentation hand grenade, the Type 86 features a similar fuse but with a plastic body. The grenade can be used for both offensive and defensive purposes. The Type 86 hand grenade is 90mm in length, 52mm in diameter and 260g in weight. The grenade body is filled with 40g high explosive (HE) surrounded by 1,600 small steel balls, which can produce a blast radius of 6m.
