Menu

The LG2 is a 40mm under-barrel grenade launcher developed for both domestic and export market. The weapon is available in two versions: the LG2-I for the 5.56mm M16 rifle and the LG2-II for the Chinese indigenous 5.8mm QBZ95 assault rifle. First revealed in late 2006, the weapon has yet been seen in operational service with the PLA.

The LG2 is a lightweight, compact, breech loading, single shot launcher used while attached to a rifle. The launcher consists of a launcher tube, a wooden hand guard, sight assembly, receiver assembly, barrel stop, and firing mechanism. The LG2-I is in the size of 383mm X 66mm X 92mm, while the LG2-II is in the size of 375mm X 66mm X 100mm. The launcher has an empty weight of 1.4kg. The LG2-I is mounted under the rifle barrel via a special attachment device, while the LG2-II can be slipped over the rifle barrel directly without requiring additional attachment.

The launcher fires Chinese indigenous 40mm low-velocity High-Explosive (HE) anti-personnel or High-Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) grenades to a maximum range of 400m. The HE anti-personnel grenade has a blast radius of 10m. The HEAT round has a blast radius of 5m and can penetrate 40mm armour angled at 60 degree. In addition, the grenade launcher could also fire training round or illumination round, or NATO 40mm M433 and M406 grenades.
