Chongqing Jianshe Group began to develop a 7.62mm sniper rifle meet Chinese military and law enforcement requirements in 2003. The weapon development was completed in 2004 and the JS 7.62mm sniper rifle was first revealed to the public in May 2005. The rifle uses bolt-action and was designed to ensure accurate placements of shots at a long distance (<800m).
The JS 7.62mm sniper rifle uses the Soviet Union/Russian 7.62 X 54mm sniper rifle cartridge. The rifle has no iron sight. An optical 3X and 9X telescope is mounted on top of the receiver. To achieve higher fire accuracy, the barrel is free-floated. The early prototype has a muzzle break but this was removed on the later production variant. A five-round box magazine is fitted directly ahead of the trigger group. The receiver, pistol grip and butt stock are all made of aluminium alloy.
