JS 12.7mm anti-material sniper rifle

Chongqing-based Jianshe Group began to develop the JS 12.7mm sniper rifle in 2003 to meet the PLA’s demand for a large-calibre heavy anti-material rifle. The development project, which was entirely funded by Jianshe Group, was completed in late 2004 and the rifle was first revealed in May 2005.

The JS 12.7mm sniper rifle uses a fluted barrel with a double baffle muzzle brake. The barrel is fitted inside a tubular stock with a small recoil recuperator (hydraulic buffer) attached under the barrel. The rifle uses bolt-action and fires Type 54 12.7 X 108mm machine gun cartridge with a muzzle velocity of 800m/s to a maximum effective range of 1,500m. The rifle is 1,392mm long and weighs 12.5kg without the telescope. The three-round magazine is mounted to the left side above the pistol grip. The rifle is mounted on a bipod and has a rear monopod fitted under the butt stock. An optical scope is mounted on top of the receiver.

China has also developed the Type 84 12.7mm armour-piercing discarding sabot round has a muzzle velocity of 1,150 m/s and at 1,000m distance can pierce 15mm of armour angled at 45 degree. The penetrator is 8mm in diameter and weighs 22.5g.
