TYPE 86 (W86) 120MM MORTAR
The Type 86 (W86) 120mm mortar was developed by NORINCO in the early 1980s to replace the older models 120mm mortars in service with the PLA ground forces. Compared to the Type 64 120mm mortar, the Type 86 is slightly heavier, but with its firing accuracy increased by 36%. NORINCO has also developed a range of 120mm mortar ammunitions for the Type 86. The mortar is fired on a bipod with base plate and can be fitted on a two-wheel carriage towed by trucks for long-distance traveling. The mortar is normally found in the artillery battalions organic to infantry regiment level.
