The PLA currently operates the ZZC02 (industrial designation: WZ731) tracked armoured reconnaissance vehicle in its armoured troops. The vehicle can be found in the Reconnaissance Company organic to Armoured Regiments. Each company is equipped with two ZZC02s for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) roles on the battlefield. The vehicle features a battlefield surveillance radar mounted on a hydraulically-powered elevation arm. The radar is raised when in use for longer detection range and is lowered when in travelling mode. The vehicle is believed to be also fitted with GPS navigation and digital communications to be connected to the ground force C4ISR network. For self-defence, the vehicle is fitted with a 12.7mm anti-aircraft machine gun and two 4-barrel smoke-grenade launchers.
