The PLA Army Aviation Corps received a small number of the Soviet-built Mi-8 (NATO codename: Hip) transport helicopter from the PLA Air Force (PLAAF) in the mid-1980s. These helicopters were acquired from the Soviet Union in the 1970~80s and many of them are no longer airworthy. Variants in service include the military transport and civilian passenger version.
