The PLA operates three examples of the Soviet-made Mi-6 (NATO codename: Hook) heavy-lift transport helicopters, which have been in service since the early 1970s, initially in the PLA Air Force (PLAAF) and later in the Army Aviation Corps. There has been reports suggesting that the PLA may be in negotiation to purchase its successor Mi-26 (NATO codename: Halo).
